Fouad CEET, a prolific artist from Toulouse, has been living in Hong Kong for 10 years.
A professional, he exhibits his graffiti all over the world and gives each of his works, or « chicken » as he likes to call them, a unique personality, often doing so with a touch of tenderness.
Why « chicken »?
Quite simply to symbolize the revolution (or « art evolution ») of the people & chickens… A fight for dignity.
As is often the case with a creative idea, there's a story behind it.
CEET’s « chicken » is no exception.
When he first arrived in China, not speaking Mandarin, he got into the habit of drawing to communicate, and that’s how, in a restaurant, his first chick was born!
It amused his friends greatly, and one of them, a toy designer, suggested creating a figurine.
Little by little, the bird became a recurring theme until it established itself as a central figure in his creative universe, not only in graffiti but also as sculptures and inflatable structures.
The chicken, a product consumed in mass worldwide, took on symbolic value for him.
Common and universal, the animal is often seen as just a food item… Raised in poor conditions, an emblem of junk food due to hormone injections and stuffed with antibiotics, this animal is rehabilitated through CEET’s creations, reclaiming its dignity as a living creature deserving of respect.
Like Walt Disney’s mouse, CEET’s « chicken » engages with humor.
And there’s just a feather’s length from seeing it as a metaphor for humanity…
