Born in Mauritius in 1963, Salim Currimjee studied biology and art history at Williams College, Massachusetts, and architecture at Rice University in Houston, Texas. A former student of the Gasworks Studio Residency Program in London, Salim Currimjee has participated in the Johannesburg, Seychelles, and Cairo biennales, the Lalit Kala Akademi Triennale in New Delhi, as well as exhibitions in Berlin, London, Amsterdam, Capetown, and Port Louis.
In parallel, his foundation, ICAIO (SSR street), one of the few dynamic cultural spaces in the Mauritian capital, continues its mission to democratize art, particularly among the younger Mauritian audience. Invitations, conferences, and workshops are often offered to high school and university students aspiring to pursue a career in art.
