Thierry Fontaine

Thierry Fontaine is a French artist and photographer, born in 1969 in Saint-Pierre, Réunion. He graduated from the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg in 1992. In 1999, he became the only person from Réunion to date to have been a resident at the Villa Medici in Rome. He has also exhibited at the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris. His numerous gallery exhibitions have been well-received by national institutions and collectors who have acquired his works.

Thierry Fontaine’s work is distinguished by a unique approach to photography. His images, often poetic, are born from carefully staged scenes and situations that the artist meticulously plans and organizes. The power of his photographs lies in their minimalist composition, allowing for improbable encounters and antagonistic associations. The interpretation of the different elements that make up the image (models, objects, locations) imposes itself on the viewer as immediate signifiers, instantly making sense and creating an impact.
